This is not for me to say but the teachings we adhere to in The Church of the New Jerusalem regarding marriage are based on a Swedenborg book called Conjugial Love.

Paragraph 50 (text by Swedenborg is always referred to by par. number, not page) explains that after death we go to heaven to eventually become angels. New to this world is, among other things, that one angel is the unity of one husband and one wife. This becomes easier to grasp if we know what it means to be male and what to be female. And in which way each is created in the image and likeness of God (Who is above gender).
